A festival to light up the town during the darkest month
During the dark and cold month of August, the historic gold-mining township of Walhalla is transformed as it celebrates the winter in a way that is reminiscent of the traditional Swedish manner of celebrating winter. The usually dark town, which has no street lights, is lit up through nightly art shows that includes a mix of light, sound and moving images to create an exciting light and soundscape.
This colourful exhibition which lights up the town in the darkest month of the year, runs daily from 6.30pm until 9.00pm in August and is free to attend. Accompanying the light and sound installation are a few extra activities around the historic town including the Walhalla Vinter Ljusfest LIGHT Train, The ELVIS is Walhalla concert with Damian Mullin and the Walhalla Vinter Ljusfest GHOST Tour. All which add to the colourful and exciting atmosphere that the light and sound show creates.
So come and spend the evening or the weekend (at one of the hotels) in the historic township of Walhalla and enjoy this bright and joyous celebration in an otherwise cold and dark winter month.
