Dance through these crazy times with Wala Connections! Wala Connection's Wala Dance movement and wellbeing sessions are free online dance sessions being held every Saturday morning at 10 am AEST to help keep us moving and our spirits high.

We have to stay home but that doesn't mean we have to stay still! In fact, dancing and as much movement as possible is highly recommended to not only improve mental health but to help us get out of that lockdown funk through the release of some serotonin. It is also a great way to get some exercise, get the blood pumping and your body sweating, instead of sitting on the couch all Saturday after sitting in a chair in front of our computers for Zoom meetings all week.

Wala Connections is made up of Thara Brown and Natasha Bamblett, who have expertise and experience in community, education, and performing arts. Prior to COVID-19 restrictions, they performed and delivered Wala Workshops, incorporating dance, language, and stories for communities, to events and organisations wanting to share, support and connect with First Nations people's rich culture and people, and encourage movement and healthy lifestyles.

In addition, they run an inspiring mentoring program for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young women through the Wala Sisters Expansion Program.

When COVID-19 restrictions came into force, they first started inviting everyone at home to move with them while they dance through these crazy times to keep their spirits up. The sessions are now in their fifth month.

Wala Connections shares that its Wala Dance movement and wellbeing sessions were "born out of the Covid-19 isolation period to bring movement, dance, fitness and grounding, and positive vibes to our homes", noting that the sessions have one purpose - "to connect and lift our spirits!"

During Wala Connection's Wala Dance movement and wellbeing sessions, dance styles and sounds are mixed up for the sole purpose of having fun, connecting, and improving fitness and confidence. They bring to the session whatever motivates them that week but every week the steps will be easy for anyone to follow. Thara and Natasha's message to everyone facing restrictions: "keep strong, stay safe, be kind... we got this! ❤️🙏🏽".

Join the fun and get moving and dancing by logging on to Instagram and joining Wala Connections' Instagram Live at 10 am AEST on Saturdays via the handle, @walaconnections, or by clicking the Zoom meeting link at the same time on Saturdays to join the party on Zoom.

No registration is needed and the sessions last approximately 45 minutes. Look out for the Zoom meeting link on Wala Connection's Facebook page.

Follow Wala Connections on Facebook and Instagram for weekly updates on its Wala Dance movement and wellbeing sessions.

Stay home, stay distanced but don't stop moving! Sign on for a session this Saturday to shake off the isolation cobwebs.
