Recently put under new management, the Wakefield Hotel in Adelaide's CBD still continue to offer a good range of delicious pub foods. Apart from the items on their main menu, the restaurant also has a selection of specials listed on a chalkboard close to the bar.

Offered as the hotel's pasta dish of the day during our visit, the penne pasta in their Chicken Pesto Pasta was cooked to al dente with the pieces of chicken giving the dish a bit of a meaty texture. The pesto sauce gave the dish a delectable herby taste and the capsicum provided a bit of sweetness. Served with the dish were slivers of Parmesan cheese that delivered a bit of saltiness to the pasta.

Another dish that was offered as special, the Sirloin Steak had the degree of char-grilled flavour we desired while still being quite juicy. We enjoyed the crisp and fluffy chips served with the steak and while the sharp taste of the coleslaw was a good partner to the steak, we thought it could have used a bit more dressing. The pepper sauce we chose for the steak was not too thick and had enough peppery flavour to make eating it enjoyable.

A dish that you can expect to see at any Australian pub, the Chicken Schnitzel was of a generous size. Its crisp coating set off the flesh wonderfully. Aside from chips, the schnitzel also came with a salad whose refreshing taste complemented the schnitzel well. For the accompanying sauce, we opted for the mushroom sauce, which had a generous portion of mushrooms to give the sauce its distinctive savoury flavour.

To help sate our appetite while awaiting our meals, we decided to order a serve of their Garlic Bread. The pieces of bread were of a fair size and not over-toasted. There was enough garlic butter spread on the bread to give them a delicious garlicky flavour.

The décor of the hotel gave it a warm and cosy feel, and the tables were spaced a good distance apart from each other. Parking spaces are available on the streets close to where the hotel is located.
