With a name like Waka, we weren't sure what we were going to discover at this newly opened restaurant in Scarborough. We stumbled across it whilst cruising for a place for breakfast last weekend.

Waka, apart from its name, is hard to miss as it is wedged between a couple of real estate agents along Landsborough Avenue. Despite looking like a small place, the restaurant extends into a spacious contemporary dining area with a large room at the rear for private functions.

Waka overlooks a children's playground which is overlooking Moreton Bay. A very relaxed place for breakfast or a bite to eat.

We were greeted by friendly wait staff who took our orders and arrived back quickly with our coffee.

A flat white, extra hot for my husband and a soy chai latte for me. We do judge a cafe on the quality of the coffee and Waka certainly made the grade as coffee was made to order.

The breakfast menu is a very simple one, with a limited but good selection of breakfast favourites in which you can choose a type of bread and mix and match flavours.

Our son chose the Big Breakfast ($25.90). For a growing boy, this was a generous serve of 2 eggs, wilted spinach, Moroccan roasted tomato, garlic portabella mushrooms, hashbrowns, sausages, bacon with halloumi on Sourdough and chilli relish.

I decided on the Eggs Benedict with sourdough and smoked salmon ($17.90). Again, it was a very generous but delicious serve.

My husband went for something sweet and ordered the French toast with Berries and maple syrup ($12.90). All meals were elegantly presented and tasted as good as they looked.

They offer gluten-free and vegetarian options. Waka is open for lunch and dinner with again, a very simple but tasty looking menu. They are open every day except Monday.

Waka restaurant is licenced and has an extensive cocktail and drinks menu. It would be a good place to come back in the evening for drinks and tapas.

Parking is available on the street or across the road in the parking area near the beach.

We get excited when there are new places to explore and we weren't disappointed about Waka. We will be back again and tell our friends about 'the new kid on the block'.
