Waikerie is a township situated on the banks of the beautiful Murray River. It is approximately 175 kilometres from Adelaide in the Riverland region.

Located on Jemison Street, not far from the town centre, is a beautiful Memorial Gardens dedicated to the servicemen and women of the Waikerie district who served in the wars.

A beautiful arch with poppies serves as an entrance. Though not very big, the gardens are very well laid out with a paved path lined with thirty jacaranda trees. The trees were planted in memory of the local men who served in World War Two and did not return home. Under each tree is a commemorative plaque.

There is a Cross of Sacrifice mounted on a stone in recognition of all who served in the Korean, Malayan, Borneo and South Vietnam Campaigns. A field gun is also on display in the garden.

Another landscape in the garden is the Walk of Remembrance, featuring a beautiful fragrant rosemary hedge planted by the Waikerie Garden Club.

There are picnic tables and chairs amongst the lush green lawns and also toilet facilities.

The is a beautiful place to visit, relax, reflect and appreciate those who served in conflicts for the freedom that we Australians enjoy.
