We have now made it to July, the seventh month of the year in our Western calendar. Did you know that July is named after the great Roman general Julius Caesar? There are also special days that are celebrated in July such as American Independence Day on July 4, the French Bastille Day on July 14, NAIDOC Week, Christmas in July, and of course, your birthday if it falls in July!
But did you know that there are also other special days that we celebrate in July? Days that are definitely unique and maybe just a little bit out there! Here are some of the wacky days you can celebrate this month.
July 3 Compliment your mirror day A special day to look in the mirror and affirm to yourself that you are special, awesome and beautiful. Be kind to yourself today!
July 6 World Kissing Day Pucker up and lock lips with your sweetie today.
July 7 Tell the Truth Day This unofficial holiday encourages people to always tell the truth, even if it is often at times inconvenient and hard. If you have kids in your life teach them that lying is harmful and tell them the benefits of telling the truth all the time. If you have been lying to a loved one or a family member, today is the day to come clean.
July 10 Teddy Bears' Picnic Day Take out the kids in your life and their stuffed bears for a picnic. If you have to have the picnic at home, what about setting a pillow tent in the middle of your living room and treating your kids' teddy bears to a picnic?
This is one holiday that is easy to celebrate. All you need to do is make someone feel loved. If you know someone who could use your company, spend some time with them, make them their favourite meal, give them some encouragement, and let them know that you enjoy your time with them. You could also invite someone who has just moved to your neighbourhood for coffee and cake and get to know them better.
July 13 Embrace your geekness day Being a geek is something to be proud of. Chances are there are few other people in the world who are as smart as you are in the field of your specific interest, whether it's music history, video games, comics, Star Wars, Harry Potter, ancient history, military history or astronomy. So accept your geekiness with open arms and show off your knowledge with pride!
July 17 World Emoji Day A Japanese invention of the 1990s, emojis are graphical representations of emotions, ideas, and thoughts. The word emoji in Japanese means picture character or picture letter. Emojis have now become an integral part of online communications—billions of emojis are sent in social media and text messages daily. So celebrate today by using only emojis to communicate with everyone on social media and text/SMS.
Yes, there's a special day for sticking out your tongue, and it's today! So why not stick out your tongue at people today? Just let them know why you are doing it, otherwise, they'll think of you as a terribly rude person! If you can't stick out your tongue at people, then stick your tongue out for ice cream, because today is also Ice Cream Day!
Ice Cream Day
Have ice cream for all your meals today! It can be considered as a nutritious food group for this one day. But if you don't like to have just plain ice cream, then what about making some ice cream sandwiches or an ice cream cake instead?
July 24 Cousins Day
If you live close to your cousins, why not get together with them and their families and do something fun? If not, then send a note or message to your cousins wishing them a happy Cousins Day. Tell them that you love them and you care about them.
July 26 Uncle and Aunt Day
Call your uncles and aunts or visit them to wish them a happy day.
July 27 Take your pants for a walk day
Get up early in the morning, wear your pants, and go for a walk!
July 31 Harry Potter's birthday
It's our favourite boy wizard's birthday today! So celebrate the boy who lived by reading the Harry Potter books, watching the Harry Potter films, building Harry Potter Lego, learning some useful Harry Potter spells, making your own Quidditch racing broom, or duelling with some wizards!
