I happen to be quite a fan of Japanese food, and Wabi Sabi, located in both St. Kilda and Collingwood, has got to be my favourite Japanese Restaurant in Melbourne. When you walk in, you are immediately surrounded by the Japanese atmosphere, artfully set by the seatings, the decor and the garden which makes you feel as if you are actually in Japan itself.
In keeping with Japanese custom and culture, their service is great, they are extremely respectful of their customers. In terms of their food, their lunch menu consists of popular dishes such as Bento boxes, Sushi, Sashimi and Donburi which as their menu amusingly suggests, it is "something yummy on rice". Their Dinner menu on the other hand offers more gourmet dishes such as duck, crab, and of course vegetarian dishes as well. What makes their food so special though is the fact that it tastes like authentic homemade Japanese food and the best thing about it all is that it is so cheap.
Some of my favourite dishes include the Tofu and vegetable ankake donburi from the lunch menu, which has this most wonderful sesame based sauce so tasty that makes you want to eat ever grain of rice. While the Salmon with the lemon teriyaki sauce from their dinner menu is great for sharing with others. Try some Sake, a rice based alcoholic beverage, if you never have before and be sure to have some Miso soup with you meal, it helps with digestion.
Are their miso soup any good? My bf is veggo and really picky with food.

Hi there, sorry for the late reply. Their miso soups are great, though miso soup is usually made with a fish stock base. I am not sure if they do them with Shitake mushroom stock as well. They do have great vegetarian dishes as well though, I personaly reccomend the vegetables with the black sesame sauce on rice, it is delicious.
