The most fun you can have on four wheels
You've seen The Great Gatsby with its glossy sets, fabulous costumes and extravagant portrayal of life in the Jazz Age. Now it's time to come back to earth with The Great Smacksby, presented by the WA Roller Derby league and guaranteed to be 100% more energetic and exciting.

WA Roller Derby

Professional roller derby began in the United States in the mid-1930s and was hugely popular until World War II, after which its appeal declined. It was revived early in the 21st century and is now one of the world's fastest growing female sports.

The WA Roller Derby league began in 2009 as a not-for-profit group to promote the sport all over the state. It's run entirely by volunteers and offers ongoing training as well as competitions, known as "bouts". The Great Smacksby features local teams Electric Screams and Sonic Doom, who are looking for revenge after losing in the first bout of the season.

Sport is always more fun when you know what's going on so if you're new to roller derby, watch the video below to be an instant expert.

Part of the fun of the bouts is dressing for the theme. Wear your Roaring 20's best, enjoy the sounds of lively trio Peppermint Jazz and join in the half-time Charleston competition. Check the WA Roller Derby Facebook page for the latest information.

The Great Smacksby also features a licensed bar, merchandise, stalls, and of course, heaps of roller derby fun.
