You might have seen the West Coast Eagles mascot flying high in the sky just before each home game. That is Auzzie, a wedge tail eagle owned Yvonne of WA Birds of Prey . Of course, this is not the only bird she has, as there are more than a dozen other birds that she has rescued and cannot be released into the wild.



Most of the Birds of Prey that have come to some injury are nursed back to health by Yvonne. They are then released back into the wild. Some birds, however, may never be able to be released due to an injury (such as blindness in an eye), and Yvonne has to apply for a special permit to keep them at her Rehabilitation centre. These birds help Yvonne teach the public about Birds of Prey in Western Australia.



For the average person, the nearest they have come to a Bird of Prey would either be seeing one fly or in a book. However, WA Birds of Prey offers the general Public a chance to see a range of raptors in flight during certain parts of the year. More importantly, you even get to hold one at the end of the show.



I was fortunate to see a show like this which was truly amazing. We were able to see a range of birds from hawks to owls to eagles. Every bird had a different personality, however while I loved all the birds, my favourite has to be Oscar the Barking Owl. He is definitely a "ladies man"!



WA Birds of Prey are one of the very few centres that offer the general public an encounter with a Bird of Prey. And Yvonne is offering a special flight session for these April Holidays. It will probably be the last show before winter, so it is well worth seeing.
