The WA Birds of Prey Centre was founded by Yvonne Sitko. Yvonne is dependent on community support, and spends most of the time helping and rehabilitating Birds of Prey that have been injured by motorists or other accidental events.

You may see Yvonne at one the West Coast Eagle's Games, flying the famous mascot, Auzzie. Auzzie was the reason for Yvonne to form the WA Birds of Prey.

West Coast Eagles and Auzzie

When Auzzie was a little chick, some people thought it would be great to steal her out of the nest and try to hand rear her. It is against the law to have a bird of prey as a pet without a permit, and the Department of Wildlife had to find someone who would be willing to take care of this wedge tail eagle while adhering to the rules of regulations of Wildlife Conservation. When Yvonne met Auzzie it was a perfect fit, and from that point on Yvonne spent countless hours feeding her and taking care of her. Because Auzzie is hand reared, she cannot defend herself in the wild and will always be in the care of Yvonne.

Of course Auzzie now has a place in almost every West Australian's heart. Who would have known at the time that Auzzie would become an Western Australian icon together with her own celebrity Facebook Page. You can like Auzzie here!

Yvonne's Bird of Prey family soon grew, and she has created a home for a number of Birds of Prey that have been injured in a way where they could not be released into the wild. For every bird that Yvonne keeps, or finds, she must register it with the Department of Wildlife.

Would you look happy if you were woken up in the middle of the day?

The WA Birds of Prey Centre hosts flight displays through the year at Whiteman Park. These events helps Yvonne raise the money to care for all the birds. Visitors will witness birds in flight and have the opportunity to hold a Bird of Prey. Furthermore, you will be supporting Yvonne with feeding, looking after and caring for Birds of Prey.

You can found out more about events that she will be hosting at Whiteman Park, or possibly in your area at the WA Birds of Prey website. If there has ever been a show you should put on your "to do list", this one is one of them.
