Wondering what it's all about? It's a project that has brought together a group of women who are sharing stories that are personal, social, humorous, cultural, historical, and at times, deeply political. They have stitched, sculpted, drawn and collected these shared stories of the vulva within the framework of an embroidery hoop.
Using any media, artists have constrained their works to this object, an object seen as representing sewing circles and female spaces. A hoop that kept things centred, to circulate thinking, as women met to laugh, drink, eat and discuss feminist foremothers, contemporary body art, blogs, sits, words, language and performance. As discussions spiralled out, some have discarded the hoop as a physical object, but now it remains as a collaborative methodology.
Come along and enjoy art outside the square and within the round and no doubt it's going to be an evening of scintillating conversations, discussions, personal views and let's not forget the art, the embroidery, sculptures and more. Are men allowed? ABSOLUTELY!
