There are some things in life that money can't buy.

1. Money can't buy love. If it could, I wouldn't be sitting here writing this article for Weekend Notes. I would be looking in to the loving eyes of my husband Kevin Arnold from The Wonder Years.

And 2. Money can't buy that feeling you get from volunteering. The feeling that you get when you know you are making a difference, and doing so without being paid, or asked to do so. You are doing it because you want to offer something to your community that they otherwise may not have obtained.

Your love, help and support can really make a difference in someone's life. All it takes is a couple of hours a week, or a couple of hours a month. Whatever you'd like to offer. And there are a few places around Perth that need you.

So if you've been thinking about volunteering, read on to see what is available for someone like you.

Oxfam Australia:

Oxfam Australia is part of a global movement of dedicated people working hard to fight poverty and injustice. There are many ways in which you can take action and support this incredible group in their goal of ending world poverty.

Oxfam require volunteers in areas ranging from customer service, research, editing, translations and administration
just to name a few.

If you are over 18, you can contribute to something important. Click here to see the ways in which you can help.
The Smith Family:

Financial disadvantage is a hidden problem in Australia. So many children are being denied the right education and are left isolated through no fault of their own.

You can help unlock opportunities for disadvantaged Australian children through education and learning by becoming a
volunteer.

As the backbone for this organisation, potential volunteers can browse the roles available online here .

Every kid deserves a bright future, and as a volunteer you can help them achieve this.

CanTeen:

CanTeen is the organisation for young people living with Cancer. The inspiration behind CanTeen is that people aged 12 to 24 living with cancer are better able to cope with their diagnosis, and speak with others going through the same thing.

By empowering and supporting young people living with Cancer, they are able to be themselves away from the pressures of day to day life.

At CanTeen, young people can simply be young people.

There are so many ways in which you can volunteer and support this organisation. You can assist on programs, at events, or in the office.

You can find out more about how rewarding volunteering at CanTeen is here .

Autism West:

Autism West is a not for profit organisation that provides many services to those affected by Autism. Autism West aims to provide support to the families of those affected, and the resources they need to best cope.

Autism West gives support to those with Autism so that they can reach their full potential and integrate effectively in the community.

Autism West are particularly interested in those studying Occupational Therapy, and Speech Therapy as volunteers. Although they welcome anyone who wishes to volunteer their time.

Expressions of interest can be submitted through the website here .

The Wilderness Society WA:

It's no secret that our environment is slowly nearing a future of chaos. But there are ways in which you can lend a hand.

The Wilderness Society WA are a dedicated and committed group of volunteers who are active in supporting campaigns such as stopping logging in old-growth forests in WA, and protecting the Ningaloo Reef.

You can do your part by volunteering. Check out all the info here .

Pet Rescue:

Pet Rescue is a not-for-profit organisation that help find new homes for lost and abandoned pets. Although over 25,000 pets are rescued through this organisation every year, over ten times that number are put to sleep each year because a home cannot be found for them.

Currently in WA, you can volunteer your services, or foster a pet. All info can be found here .

Volunteering involves things like Home Checks, Transport, and attending events and open days to promote the cause.

The above are just a few of the things you can do to lend a hand in Perth. If you spend your weekends without meaning, why not volunteer your time. You'll be rewarded in so many different ways, and helping those less fortunate than you. It's truly something to do in Perth that gives you a feeling money can't buy.
