Everyone loves a man or woman in uniform. Here is your chance to look smart and assist visitors to Brisbane at the same time. The Ladies in Pink and the Boys in Blue at the Brisbane Visitor Information Centre are looking for some new colleagues, particularly in the afternoons and on weekends.
Volunteers of all ages are welcome to apply. Young people training in hospitality and tourism may find the weekends most suitable for their involvement. Voluntary experience with the Brisbane Visitor Information Centre will look good on the CV when applying for paid positions. The program is also well suited to retirees who are looking to meet like-minded folk with whom to spend an enjoyable four hours or so per week.
It helps if you are familiar with the Brisbane CBD, and have experienced for yourself nearby tourist attractions, but there is always someone on duty who has the answer, and there is always Good old Google on the Centre's computers. here is also a large selection of brochures containing a wealth of information. It is surprising the number of Brisbanites who come seeking information, as well as visitors to our fair city.
As well as enjoying the camaraderie at the VIC as it is affectionately known, there are other social occasions including familiarisations at local tourist attractions, regular meetings with tourism representatives, and the yearly celebration of Volunteers' Week. VIC volunteers have recently enjoyed a Christmas party when several members dressed appropriately for the season.
