Feel like doing something unique and rewarding instead of your ordinary weekend? Come and play a massive role in Oxfam's attempt to challenge poverty!Oxfam Australia is hosting its huge fundraising event, Oxfam Trailwalker, right here in Perth from the 16th to 18th September 2016 and is looking for some keen volunteers to assist during the event weekend! What will you be doing? The walkers will be completing a total of 100km through the beautiful Perth Hills and 500 to 600 volunteers are needed to help them along the way!
The Oxfam Trailwalker volunteers play an important role in the running of the event. Volunteering is a fantastic way to meet people, bond with colleagues and friends, share in the excitement of Oxfam's biggest fundraising event and, most importantly, make a difference.A wide variety of roles are available in the Checkpoint Areas and Allied Health Marquees (for all the ouches), and trail guidance in key locations (great role for the nature freaks or anyone seeking some peace and quiet outside the city!). Shifts will be running all day/night starting on Friday morning and running through to early on Sunday morning.Work at a checkpointCheckpoints are a hub of activity, a haven of food and nutrition, and a place for weary Trailwalkers to rest. With so much going on at each checkpoint, there are literally hundreds of exciting positions to fill.Checkpoint Coordinator: The chief of the checkpoint is in charge of operations and staff and ensures the checkpoint runs safely and efficiently.Assistant Checkpoint Coordinator: Support the Checkpoint Coordinator in running a smooth checkpoint and keeping everyone happy.Checkpoint Operations Support: A jack of all trades, assisting at the checkpoint in a variety of different areas such as coordinating food and beverages, marshalling the walkers to the check-in desk, and ensuring the checkpoint remains as 'green'.Check In Operator: The happy face all participants see when entering and exiting a checkpoint. Help ensure that everyone is safe and accounted for, and act as the information outpost for everyone along the way.Parking Team: The Parking Coordinator and Parking Marshals will work together to greet support crews, provide essential information and manage the perfect car park.Work on the trailKeen to hit the trail, but not up for the full 100km? There are plenty of great roles for volunteers that will get you out on the trail – without the blisters!Roles available:Trail Marker: Walk the trail before everyone else and place trail markings according to the maps. Your help will ensure that the walkers know where they're going.Trail Marshal: Help the participants pass safely along the trail, and also be their motivation and support when they really need it.Sweep Team: The all-important back-up crew – follow the last team on the trail and ensure they safely reach the next checkpoint. Clear the trail of all trail markings and debris as you go.
Medical supportTight hammies, sore backs, blisters and swollen ankles await the medical support volunteers. These hugely rewarding roles provide an essential service for the wellbeing of the hardworking walkers, and they're also a fantastic practical experience for qualified MYO/ Massage practitioners, physiotherapists, podiatrists, as well as students of all those fields who are in 3rd and 4th year of studies. Many of the walkers say that they could not have finished without this fantastic support! Roles available:Physiotherapy: Enjoy the hands-on experience as you strap and look after participants.Podiatrist 100km makes for tired feet...podiatrists make for happy Trailwalkers! (Also responsible for coordinating and supervising podiatry students.) Podiatry Student: Assist with treatments to aching feet. Transport & LogisticsIf you prefer to be on the move, behind the scenes or at the wheel, then working on the transport and logistics team is the thing for you!Roles available:Event Logistics Support: Volunteers might find themselves driving minibuses, or supporting the Oxfam Trailwalker logistics team with supplies and deliveries.Leaflet Dropper: You'll be dropping leaflets in the weeks prior to the event to get the word out to residents along sections of the trail.IT Support: Use your know-how to keep the event connected and help with any IT-related jobs. Please note: (All drivers must be over 25 years and hold a full licence)
