Perth Volcano Erupts With Fun
Volcanic Volcano

Toddler Playground

Faulkner Park, otherwise known as 'Volcano Park', in Belmont is an ideal place to spend a weekend morning encouraging your little explorers to run off some of their energy.

I visited the Volcano Park on Sunday with my kids, my sister and my niece. As soon as the kids got through the gate they were off exploring the massive 'volcano'. My eldest (7) found some interesting ways of getting up and down the volcano, climbing up its walls and sliding down to the paths that wind around it. He and some boys he met at the playground loved seeing how much they could freak their parents out by zooming down the sides of the volcano and landing with a thump at the bottom.

The younger two (aged 4 and 2) preferred the relatively sedate tunnels, turtles, sandpit, spiderweb climbing apparatus, slides and steps that are all around the volcano until... they all spotted the Fantastic Flying Fox.

The Flying Fox kept the kids occupied for hours. This contraption is fantastic at keeping kids entertained. The kids on it were busy organising themselves into taking turns, the bigger kids were always helping the little ones pull the swing back up to the platform and pushing the little ones up and down if the swing was too slow. This gave me and my sister plenty of time to chill out with a coffee while watching the kids play.

The park also has a dedicated toddler area with swings, slides and other playground goodies that are suitable for the very young children, BBQ's, picnic tables and great grassed areas and gardens with lots of big trees for shade. This is a great setting with a mix of the modern safe 'soft fall' matting and the natural environment. The kids all seemed to love climbing around the rocks as much as they did on the play equipment itself.

The public toilets are about 100m walk away, just outside of the Belmont Oasis, and there is a cafe just around the corner of the same building which is handy for the coffee run.
