In the times of social distancing and travel restrictions, it's important for us to support local businesses and tourism where we can.

With that in mind, my family and I headed to Kangaroo Island for the first time and I can guarantee we'll be back. After a busy morning of exploring, our stomachs were grumbling and our feet were tired when we stumbled upon and it was just what we needed.

Vivonne Bay is located on the south coast of Kangaroo Island, 61km from Kingscote and 92km from Penneshaw, the two largest towns.

The outside of the store is inviting, bright and exactly what I imagined a general store on an island would look like. Entering the store we were greeted by a friendly staff member who took our order for hot chips and hot dogs. The wait was reasonable, the range of food available was good and the staff were great.

Due to dining restrictions, there were only a couple of tables outside to eat at but when the restrictions are lifted, I'm sure inside dining will be available again.

Despite there being a few people ordering, the wait wasn't very long and the food smelled delicious.

There are a couple of picnic tables amongst the trees next to the carpark, which was the perfect spot for us to stop and enjoy the fresh air.

A lot of the food available at the store is similar to what you'd expect to find at a fish and chip shop, including hot chips (of course!), hot dogs, dim sims, burgers and the store's famous whiting burger

I'm a vegetarian, so didn't try the burger (veggie burgers were available but who can resist chips?) but whilst waiting for our order outside in the sunshine I overheard a couple talking about their burgers being the best they'd ever had.

As well as hot food, the store sells alcohol and basic grocery items, including fresh fruit and vegetables and meat and whether you're staying in the area or visiting for the day, the store is a must to visit.

Head to the Facebook page for updates and information about the store and help support local small businesses and this beautiful island.
