Sydney will be illuminated with light shows, live music performances and great ideas with the return of Vivid Sydney from 27 May to 21 June.

Known as the largest festival of its kind in the southern hemisphere, Vivid Sydney will see the return of Lighting the Sails, which will feature the illumination of the Sydney Opera House sails. In 2009, Brian Eno's Lighting the Sails attracted more than 200,000 people while receiving worldwide media coverage that was seen by more than 60 million people globally.

Not only will the outside of the Sydney Opera House receive a transformation, its stages will be the host to Vivid LIVE. American rocker Lou Reed and artist and musician Laurie Anderson as co-curators of Vivid LIVE will be present live performances by pop-rock veteran Rickie Lee Jones, the Australian debut of Maverick New York theatre company Young Jean Lee and retro garage punk duo King Khan & BBQ Show.

Nearby, The Rocks will come alive with Fire Water that will bring a mixture of fire, food and music to the festival. Set in Campbells Cove, The Rocks Fire Water will re-create the 1797 journey of the Sydney Cove tall ship by merchanct Robert Campbell through Bollywood-styled theatrical spectacles.

Meanwhile, in celebration of the 200th anniversary celebration of Australia's power couple, Governor Lachlan and Elizabeth Macquarie, historical buildings along Macquarie Street will be transformed into an on-foot night adventure as part of Macquarie Visions. The free public walk will be a storytelling journey using iconic Macquarie era buildings such as St Mary's Cathedral, Hyde Park Barracks and Parliament House as its backdrop.

More live performances will be met with stimulating discussions as part of Creative Sydney. It will bring together local and international leaders of all spectrums of the creative realm from advertising, architecture, design, fashion and film. Similarly, X|Media|Lab, the internationally acclaimed digital media think-tank previously held in other parts of the world, will allow local media companies to get connected with other digital media entrepreneurs, technology innovators, creative thinkers and commercialisation experts.
