It's that time of year again when Sydney lights up like a rainbow for the Vivid Festival of Light, and one of the most relaxing and cruisy ways to take in this spectacular light show - is on board a boat. There are cruises aplenty out there spruiking for Vivid but, if you are after one where you wont be squashed in like a sardine, Harbourside Cruises Vivid Sydney Cruise is the one for you.
Boarding the Harbour Spirit at Pyrmont Wharf (opp Star Casino)
Held nightly during Vivid with two sessions available, this 2 hour cruise on board luxury catamaran the Harbour Spirit includes a welcome drink & canapes on arrival, a delicious and plentiful hot and cold buffet dinner, DJ, licensed bar and plenty of space to roam.
The hot and cold buffet consisted of fresh salads including seafood, antipasto platter, crusty bread, hot foods included (really delicious) chicken, roast potatoes, boscaiola pasta and penne in a red sauce.
Having recently enjoyed the 5.15pm session of this Vivid Sydney Cruise, apart from being great value, it is also kid friendly. We were able to make our way from the front deck to the back deck numerous times during the cruise with ease, always finding an unobstructed vantage point from which to view the lights.
With the Vivid lights starting at 6pm, and boarding of the Harbour Spirit complete by around 5.15, you have ample time to enjoy the canapes, welcome drink and dinner (or feed the kids) before the light show starts. I highly recommend this session if you are bringing younger ones with you as you can be off the boat and home by around 8pm on a school night. The later session departs at around 7.45pm.
Harbourside Cruises have admirably opted to keep numbers on board down to ensure you have a great experience on your Vivid Sydney Cruise with them. We were one of the last to board and easily found window seats as there is plenty of space both in and outdoors.
