Long live the free youth festival VIVA these holidays
Kick your teenagers out of bed and get them disconnected from devices for possibly up to an entire day these school holidays (excluding taking selfies), at the VIVA Youth Festival in Prahran – an all-day fully supervised, drug, alcohol and smoke free event for 12 to 25 year olds.
VIVA returns to Princes Gardens from 10am to 5pm on Saturday 11 April as part of National Youth Week, and it's set to raise the roof on previous years thanks to the City of Stonnington and its expert youth-led FReeZA team, Soundslike Productions.
The festival line-up is jam-packed with only the coolest activities and entertainment, including DJs spinning tunes all day and the return of the VIVA Prahran Skate Competition, with open and sponsored street comps as well as mini ramp jam, junior vert(ical) and pro vert(ical) demos, and $3,000 in prize money up for grabs. Plus the massive King of the Court 3-on-3 basketball competition, with 20 teams set to battle it out for the first prize of $1,000. The next generation of Chris Ansteys and Lauren Jacksons, Jake Browns and Monica Shaws should register to be in for the win on the day from 10am.
For the less competitive, there will also be tonnes to get involved in, including basketball clinics coordinated by Helping Hoops, hip hop workshops presented by The Space and Indigenous Hip Hop Projects, rock climbing, the chance to record their own video in the privacy of the VIVA Youth Booth, and time to just sit back and chill out.
With plenty of food vans serving up your kid's favourites all day, as well as the Victorian Skate Board Association barbeque, don't even think about making a packed lunch (..how embarrassing).
Set in the heart of Prahran, it's just a short walk from Prahran Train Station or tram ride from South Yarra, so you don't even need to drop your kids off (..as if.. they'll let you anyway). So send your tweens, teens and twenty-somethings out for some (fresh air) fun and freedom, with the confidence they'll have a good time without it turning into a bad time, at VIVA Youth Festival.
Why? Save your sanity this Easter holidays and send your tweens, teens and twenty-somethings out to VIVA Youth Festival in Prahran – a free, fully supervised, all-day, drug, alcohol and smoke free event.
