Mexican Independence Day with a huge fiesta - the
Viva Mexico Festival! The family friendly period is from 1-7pm with the adult fiesta from 7pm to 1am the next morning. A ticketed event,
secure your tickets here . Tickets range from $11.53 (inclusive of fees) - kids over 3 must pay for a ticket for day time session 1-6pm; $21.97 night time ticket from 6pm to 1am for over 18's. This ticket also allows you to enter the day time session; $104.45 - This one is a biggie.
For this you will receive a VIP Tequila and agave distillates experience and masterclass in a 1950s tram that has been transformed into a Mexican Cantina. No Mexican time for this one with the session starting at 6pm sharp! There'll be a talk about agave distillates, how they're produced, Mexican history, the influence of the Spanish in this beverage, Aztec history and mythology, Aztec God's legends, Mexican geography and Mexican wrestling and its history. The Lone Mariachi will serenade you right at your table. Ticket also includes 4 x 15ml shots and entry to the Viva Mexico Festival.
There are a few competitions running so get ready for it. If you think you can handle the heat, theres the
Chilli Shots Competition where you must also give a demonstration of your best
grito ranchero (ranchero screaming?). You may spit fire, but if you're the winner, there's real dollars to be won. The
Frida Kahlo Costume Competition has two categories - kids and adults. Perhaps parents and children can twin it for the day. This comp also has prize money up for grabs, but for the
adult category only. Kids winner will get a piƱata, tickets for Lucha Fantastica Day of the Dead Show and a small gift.
Other entertainment includes music and Mexican folk dance, Mexican DJs, special guests from the best Mexican folk dance school in Australia, tacos and street food, a Mexican market, pinatas and kids activities, a Mexican wrestling demonstration, an El Grito ceremony at midnight to celebrate Independence, and a whole lot more.
