This Summer, LUMAS Melbourne invites you to experience the unbridled joie de vivre, formerly magnificent manors and American classic cars of Havana!
Come along to the Viva Cuba! Exhibition, opening to the public on 3 December 2015.
Showcasing the island's nostalgic charm, this unique group exhibition will feature selected new works by Werner Pawlok, Luigi Visconti & Larry Yust.
Each displayed work celebrates the architecture, colour, light and atmosphere of Cuba.
In July 2015, world-renowned, Stuttgart-based photographer Werner Pawlok revisited Havana just for LUMAS, in order to capture an exciting period of upheaval.
The result: impressive and beautiful shots with a bittersweet aftertaste. He masterfully tells the tale of a changing country and its past decades of glory and unimaginable splendor. "I try to find locations that are not so easily accessible. I want to uncover things, and chance plays a large role in that," Pawlok says. Since 2004 Pawlok has dedicated himself to photographing the Caribbean city. The new works supplement his successful series "Cuba – expired".
Luigi Visconti is particularly inspired by the art deco, art nouveau and eclectic design influences in Cuban architecture and this is shown in his photographs of promenade facades.
Philadelphian-born Larry Yust worked in theatre and film whilst pursuing a parallel career as a still photographer in the 1990s. His Photographic Elevations are made up of between five and fifty individual shots.
A special preview event will be held on 3 December 2015, from 6pm at LUMAS Melbourne. Event-goers will be able to take advantage of special offers and drinks on the night. The exhibition will then run until 13 December 2015.
