Melburnian's have the chance to see Her Majesty The Queen and His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh during their visit to Melbourne this year. The Queen and Duke have planned to start their 'Meet the People' walk at 12:30pm on Wednesday 26th October 2011. They will begin by the National Gallery of Victoria and board their Royal Tram at Federation Square, heading south down Swanston Street to Government House Drive.

The public will get the chance to watch from St Kilda Road and Swanston Street but are advised to arrive early as the area will get very busy with spectators excited to see the Queen on what is believed to be her last visit to Australia. The Queen last visited Melbourne in 2006 for the opening of the Commonwealth Games. Her visit to Melbourne this year is part of a 10 day tour of Australia where she has already travelled to Perth, Canberra and Brisbane.

The Queen has been welcomed with open arms during her visit to Australia despite the controversy surrounding Prime Minister Julia Gillard failing to curtsey upon meeting. Regardless of the royal faux pas, Australian's have given the Queen and Duke a warm reception and Melbourne's iconic Federation Square will no doubt be full of excited fans greeting and photographing them.

Visitors should arrive well before 12:30pm for the best photo opportunities.
