On days when Perth's more well-known parks are heaving, Banks Reserve on the Swan River in Mount Lawley offers a peaceful respite.

The reserve has something to offer the whole family.

Littlies can use the fenced playground equipment under the shade of giant plane trees then run up and down a hill at the edge of neighbouring grassed area. The reserve also has space for older children to kick a ball, fly kites or practise their basketball shots.

Mum and Dad can use the exercise equipment or perhaps just daydream about owning one of the near-mansions overlooking the reserve and river from Joel Terrace.

Dogs are banned from the playground but can roam off-leash elsewhere – and might enjoy a swim in a shallow creek which joins the Swan at the reserve. There are no barbecues but everyone can have a picnic at one of the river-side tables before walking it off along a shared walking/cycling track following the river.

The playground is not brand new but the equipment is all working. It contains one of the old school, metal merry-go-rounds - which seem to have been all but litigated out of existence – as well as the usual slides and swings.

There is a public bathroom near the playground as well as a water bubbler.

The hill in Banks Reserve also has a small, unfenced amphitheatre which could potentially be a nice place for a wedding or family celebration.
