Watch Street Art Docos, Narrative Shorts & Nature VR Films

This summer, The Virtual Reality Cinema in Collingwood is playing host to an exciting Summer program of immersive VR shorts created by a new wave of VR content creators.

VR or virtual reality is an immersive experience in which your head movements are tracked in a three-dimensional world, thanks to lightweight mobile VR headset.

This is a truly unique way to enjoy the latest technological innovations in cinema and a rare glimpse into the future of documentaries, music, short films and interactive group experiences.

Discover a growing range of never seen before works in a 360 perspective:

Program One - Street Art & Nature

  • Helvitia: A short film that fully immerses the viewer in the aerial rocky terrain of the Swiss mountains.

  • Exodus: Be physically immersed in the herds making up part of the two million wildebeest that embark on a long and treacherous journey in an endless chase toward the rains. Stand on the banks of the infamous Mara River.

  • Untold: Documentary of a street art event in Richmond featuring works from Adnate, The London Police, Mike Makatron, Lister and many more.

  • Rone: A distinctive portrait of the titular street artist, whose stunning large-scale portraits of women's faces can be found adorning soon to be forgotten spaces, acting as a commentary on gentrification and the masculine realm of street art.

Program Two: Narrative Film & Concept

  • The Escape: After rescuing her sidekick, Steve, from clutches of the dreaded Yakuza Gang, Courtney and Steve must fight their way to safety.

  • Ink & Colour: One of the most popular shorts, this abstract VR short sees slow-motion ink drops surround you as colourful aurora-like graphics follow in their path.

  • The Invisible Man: Nick and Kid have half a million euros in heroin stashed in an upstate barn but they also have a debt to pay to Frank. When Frank suddenly shows up at their' hideout, they have no choice but to oblige in a sadistic game of Russian Roulette.

  • Night Shift: Teenager Z is covering the night shift for his manager at the local fuel stop. A gang of vampires come to toy with him and summon a portal to release a demon. Only with the help of an unexpected ally, Z is able to stop the apocalypse and save the fuel stop.

Find out more about the VR shorts here.

The venue itself is intimate, with just 12 swivel chairs per screening available. Once you are seated, you will be provided with the latest VR headset, which allows for seamless viewing of 4 VR shorts (20-30 minutes). The VR content will be synchronised, so all viewers experience the VR shorts together. The custom player also allows for 7 Points of 3D Positional Audio to give you the best audio experience possible.

Enter the VR world at The Virtual Reality Cinema, open Saturday evening, with sessions at 6pm and 6.40pm.

All tickets are priced $18pp: to make a booking, please click here. Group booking and private screenings welcome.
