Driving along the D'Aguilar Highway approaching the town of Nanango is a site that will entice you in: a strange little collection of small slab buildings on what is called Virgil's Artisan Village.

Some years ago it was a hive of activity as a range of artists worked from the slab buildings, but sadly, perhaps because of the large number of local markets these days, it is not the busy space that it was.

However, there is still plenty of activity there – with a shop selling a wide range of art works, paintings and craft, and you can stop for a snack or an ice cream and sit surrounded by a busy garden and fascinating crafts.

Virgil Smith still creates his wood works – making furniture, toys, carving, and working with slab timber – and also takes commissions. Textile crafts, knitting and other creations are on display in the gallery, along with wooden children's toys, pottery and more. It certainly worth a good wander around. Don't miss the home made jams and chutneys too.

The Village Café is known for its popular pumpkin scones, and Devonshire teas. It is open daily from 9 am to 5 pm, and bus groups are welcome.
