If you are looking for a coffee place that's every so slightly kitsch and off the beaten track, then look no further that Vintage Espresso. It is located on Alfred Avenue, just off the Gold Coast Highway in Mermaid Beach. Alfred Avenue is about half way between Broadbeach and Nobby Beach and leads directly to the beach, which is just 5 minutes walk away.
It is the perfect place to escape the hustle and bustle of the Gold Coast, where you can sit and have breakfast, coffee and cake or grab a take out before or after a good walk on the beach.
I so much prefer coffee places like this, rather than the chains and mall style cafes. For some reason it feels like more of a pleasure having coffee here, less rushed and less hectic and much more friendly, like you are sat in a mates house.
I love the decor too - completely mismatched yet complimentary furniture, art, displays and trinkets make it a wonderful place to feel at home, sit and read a paper, have something to eat or to just stop and relax. There is something immensely satisfying about having a coffee in a big worn-out comfy chair, that wouldn't look out of place in my nan's house.
It is totally charming and very popular with locals. You could easily pass by it on the highway and never know it was there. You don't have the views that some coffee places can boast, as it is located on a road by the highway, but that doesn't matter, you can't have everything right?
The prices are very reasonable and much cheaper that most other coffee places I have visited, and tastier too.
Cappuccino - $3.50
Flat White - $3.50 Tea - $3.50 Latte - $3.50
Mocha - $4
Special Blended Fruit Juice - $6.50
They have a full breakfast menu, which is a blend of the traditional with a trendy twist. They have a number of specials too, which look amazing.
For me, it is the best weekend afternoon place to meet friends and have a coffee and relax.
They are open early till 4pm everyday, if you are heading to the coast, make sure you pop in and see what it's all about. I expect you will love it too, and it will soon become one of your favourite places. I'll see you there.
