Vintage Clothes Talk and Tea

Home > Melbourne > Fashion |
Jenkins' award-winning book, Love Vintage, will provide a basis for discussion.

This Thursday at Cheltenham Library, you can expect far more than dusty old books. You will find fashionistas, vintage clothes, afternoon tea and award winning author Nicole Jenkins.

The discussion about ladies fashions from the 1920s to 1960s will be enriched by the expert knowledge of Jenkins, who wrote Love Vintage. The book, which won a bronze medal in the popular culture/leisure category of the 2010 Independant Publisher Book Awards, treats vintage couture as art, with photographs and information about garment construction.

Those attending are invited to bring their own vintage pieces for discussion, along with the garments selected by Jenkins for their noteworthy design features.

Lovers of period clothing might already know of Jenkins' retail store, Circa, located in Fitzroy and online. Those who are well-practised in making purchases in vintage op-shops will be interested in the wealth of information about garment design and construction presented on Thursday. If you can't make it to Jenkins' talk, substitute with a visit to her fashion blog. As well as reading about vintage clothes, there are also features on current fashion events and exhibitions which are sure to delight any fashionista.
