Growing up as a child in a country-town, many of us were impressed by the white picket fence and the ideal behind residing there. So when I came across "The Vintage Apron" , the new cafe in Capalaba whose decor included a white picket fence around the outside dining area, I was immediately drawn to it. A variety of herbs growing in white potted boxes outside the fence produces a charming contrast of white and green colours.

Opening only a couple of months ago in December 2015, The Vintage Apron has all the charm from days gone incorporating working chandeliers and tongue and groove wooden sliding panels which separates a more formal dining area from the cafe eating area. All areas are open during trading times, so there is plenty of space for customers.

Owners Pierre and Debora like the friendly atmosphere in The Redlands and have settled here. Pierre mentioned how lovely it was for people you didn't even know to say hello. Pierre cooks all the food, including the cakes on his premises and he wants to bring back the country-style home-cooked feel to his menu where ingredients are totally fresh providing a high range of nutrition to each meal.

The Vintage Apron also offers High Teas for $35/person and your guests can be seated privately behind these sliding wooden doors in the dining area. Or perhaps you would like to propose to your girlfriend or have a private dinner - there is another smaller room where this type of occasion can be catered.

The Vintage Apron is situated right at the front of the left hand entrance to Capalaba Central Shopping Centre and is open from 7.00am Monday to Sunday and late until 7.30pm on Thursdays. Choosing from the variety of cakes, I immediately saw a piece of Pumpkin Fruit Cake, which I bake at home, however Pierre's had cranberries as the fruit instead of sultanas, so I definitely had to try that. The cake was moist and very delicious. You can also choose from a range of selected cakes with coffee for $7.90.

Small potted herbs are placed on each inside table adding to the natural fresh atmosphere of the cafe and also encourages the customer to pick a couple of leaves to add to their meal just as you would if adding pepper and salt.

Pierre believes that the employment of suitable staff is very important to the culture of any business and I can honestly say the young lady who served us was very pleasant, helpful and had a smile on her face even when she wasn't attending to our needs. There is nothing worse than getting the feeling that the staff do not want to be at work. This is certainly not the case at The Vintage Apron.

When you are next in the area, have a meal or afternoon tea at The Vintage Apron . I certainly will be.
