Alexandria Vintage Hub
If you are a collector, an artistically inclined person, or just a lover of all things old and beautiful, then check out the list below for the best places to pick up fascinating antique, vintage, retro, 20th century, rustic, and industrial collectibles.
The shops mentioned on this list are some of the best in the business, offering rare treasures and great deals; and all of them are located in Alexandria. All the items in these stores are lovingly sourced and re-purposed to give people a glimpse into the past.
Creative Vintage Centre, Botany Road
At the Creative Vintage Centre, every available shelf and space is filled with timeless and unique pieces, each with a history to tell. From old records to vintage greeting cards; American Indian decorative plates to industrial furniture; rare antiques to retro and vintage outfits; quaint glass items, quirky toys and knick-knacks, you never know what you are going to find in here.
Lunatiques Vintage and Design Collective, Wyndham Street A place where vintage and rustic meets industrial and commercial, at Lunatiques you will find old and new items, art deco pieces, vintage furniture, industrial era items, antique jewellery and vintage clothing, glass bottles, old toys and games, rare books, and even old photographs. You can spend the entire day browsing through their extensive collection.
The Vintage Drawer, Newton What started as love for a 'gorgeous silk, green roses 'Hilton' dress 30 years ago, has blossomed into a passion for vintage clothing for Deborah Thompson, the owner of Vintage Drawer. The dress that started it all now occupies a place of honour in the shop, with other gorgeous, top-quality apparel made in 1930's, 40's, 50's, and 60's styles. They even dressed up Nicole Kidman once!
Retrocycle Vintage, Wyndham Street Retrocycle Vintage is dedicated to art deco and vintage decorative items, the kind of place where you can pick up a timeless piece of history handed down through the ages. Here, you can lose yourself in quiet contemplation, or indulge your aesthetic senses with a classic plate display, as you stroll through modern and vintage furniture.
Greenie's Gold, Wyndham Street Old is gold, and Greenie's Gold is a vintage lover's paradise. Take a trip down memory lane, as you stroll through a curious mix of cool and funky retro items, collectibles and industrial memorabilia, and a whole bunch of stuff from the 1960's and 70's. Sift through the things you see (and don't see!), and you will definitely find something quirky to catch your fancy. An antique bright red cash register, a bunch of cast iron, glass bottles – you never know what treasures you might find lurking in a corner.
Longbarn & String, Wyndham Street Longbarn is your go-to shop for all kinds of industrial and architectural antiques, with a good collection of antique garden furniture as well. If you are one of those people who go all starry eyed over a vintage book press, or an old French door with a lot of character and wrought iron work, vintage leather furniture and items, a vintage French cane chest, a mid-19th Century Oak Chest, a fabulous zinc table, or even an old wooden butcher's block, then this lovely shop is for you. Filled with unique treasures and that delicious smell of all things old and beautiful, it is hard to leave.
Glenn and Jacqueline Watson Fine Arts Pty Ltd, Wyndham Street
Glenn and Jacqueline offers a different kind of experience, one with exquisite vintage art collectibles. For the last two decades, this store has been catering to the refined tastes of connoisseurs and art collectors, by offering a fine collection of antique maps, architectural engravings, vintage art, old posters, books and photographs, and decorative print - all of which are lovingly conserved or restored. This shop is a must-see for all art lovers and collectors looking to add a piece of history to their collections.
Fabian & Tim, Wyndham Street They are mainly known for their customised, made-to-order vintage style, and modern furniture and accessories. Whether you have set your eyes on a restored, reupholstered vintage chair, or would like to enhance the opulent beauty of your home with a custom created piece, these guys won't disappoint you. You can be sure to walk away with the kind of furniture that will make you the envy of your neighbourhood!
Mitchell Road Antique and Design Centre, Bourke Road Discover a whole new world of retro, antique, and vintage articles when you walk through the doors of Mitchell Road Antique and Design Centre. It is not a quaint old shop cluttered with lovely old things from days long forgotten, with a wizened old man bending over an antique cash register, but with more 70 dealers housed in a 2,300 sq meter massive warehouse, it is definitely a treasure trove of artefacts, apparel, and collectibles, sure to put a smile on your face.
This shop is purely dedicated to rare, cultural, ritualistic objects, and all things pertaining to Tibet, Nepal, Bhutan and Mongolia, with heavy emphasis on Tibetan antique and cultural artefacts. You can dig up some really unique and creative artwork that could either grace your home, or become the ideal gift for a loved one.
