Bargain hunters can find several thrift shops around West End, but the most recent one to open (in July 2019) is run by the St Vincent de Paul Society. It is located on Montague Road and is in a large building that's been freshly painted with thought gone into the floor layout.

The store is bright, spacious, clean and orderly - none of the rough and tumble of old-fashioned op shops, so perhaps a bit too sterile for some thrift shoppers?

On the upside, I quite liked the wide range of goods that are clearly displayed without having to dig into dusty crates on the floor.

The store has a very large range of clothing for men, women and children, shoes, accessories, fancy dress costumes, bric-a-brac, electrical items (I spied a yoghurt maker, lamps, power tools), manchester, toys, books, and furniture. Prices ranged from $1 for bric-a-brac to $500 for a modern sideboard, but generally, items were only a few dollars each.

If you're not into thrift shopping, you might like to donate some of your unwanted household items to help in Vinnies' very wide range of services for the underprivileged and needy. There are over 330,000 Queenslanders receiving support of some kind through the work of the St Vincent de Paul Society.
