Cheaper than anywhere you've been before

Today I took my 7 year old cousin Dakota to Vinnies in Carrum Downs, she had never been to a second hand store before but she really liked it and found some really great things.

Vinnies is the best op shop to shop at for two very good reasons
1) They donate the money to homeless people.
2) Everything is unbelievably cheap.

I bought a whole new outfit for the cheapest price, I got a nice t-shirt which was $3, a pair of light blue jeans which was $2, a little white cardigan for $4 and a pair of converse shoes for $5. I was totally rapped. Dakota also found a One Direction hat that she had always wanted, it was only $1. She was pretty impressed, considering she had only brought $10 with her to spend.

Vinnies is a really lovely place to shop, the workers there are really nice and they volunteer as well. They help out and they make sure everything is tidy and they let you know if they're bringing out more items and they even have a $1 rack of clothing.

Dakota loved looking at the books and the toys, she found some really cool books that were about 20 to 50 cents and also a High School Musical puzzle which was just $1. She said she liked looking at the things for sale at Vinnies because she could actually afford the things they sold there.

I managed to pick up an Elvis Presley biography book for my grandpa, which was only $3 - I was so shocked, to buy it brand new on Ebay it would have cost around $200. The book only had one little crease at the back and that was all. Needless to say, I took it.

I will always shop at Vinnies, it doesn't matter which one you go to, as they will all have great stuff. You have to grab it when its there otherwise you may not find it again next time you come back. I love bargain shopping and I am glad I can teach my cousins and siblings the same thing.

I don't think I've even known a charity shop to do such low prices. Definitely a place to visit if you are nearby.

AND Vinnies don't spend so much money on paying employees as other recycle shops. Instead, the funds go straight to those in need and Vinnies employ more volunteers.

Great article.......In the Eastern suburbs town of Boronia we have an equally fab op shop in Erica Ave that uniquely raises money for Vietnam Vets and their families in need.It is all run by volunteers and the prices are fabulous too.It is a win/win to shop at these businesses as all they aim to do is turn over the donated goods quickly.
Reuse, recycle......yippee!

Thanks for writing about Vinnies. I love the shops too! I used to volunteer as a shop girl on the weekends.

I thought it would be good to share that not all stuff in Vinnies are second-hand either. It all depends on donations received. Sometimes they get brand-new items with tags still on it! We used to sort through bulks of shirts with tags donated by a factory. My colleagues at the Croydon VIC store also told me that there were times when the wedding dress store around the corner donates their old designs. - brand new wedding dresses! It's amazing.
