Expect the unexpected at The Village Festival in the Edinburgh Gardens, Fitzroy this October. Being described as a trip into a utopian world where music, theatre, visual arts, puppetry, story-telling and more are celebrated as supreme, this magical three-day event is being held from Friday 27th October through to Sunday 29th October 2017 and is sure to appeal to people of all ages.
An annual event, the quirky, colourful Village Festival brings together musicians, dancers, visual artists, actors and performers. In an atmosphere of Indian wedding tents, random caravans and bizarre installations, you really will feel transported into another universe where creative arts and artists are larger than life and centre stage.
From the quirky to the sublime to the simply amazing; kids of all ages will love the roving entertainers including the giant puppet adaptation of The Garden of Sorrows by Snuff Puppets. These larger than life creatures are sure to be captivating.
The main stage will host a line-up of emerging and established musicians including Masco Sound System, The Number Nineteens, Copperhead Brass Band, Hello Tut Tut, Low Down Big Band, All Day Fritz and Chaos Magnet. Bring your chair or blanket as picnics are encouraged. Prepare for a lazy day enjoying the feast of live
entertainment as well as a few opportunities to get hands-on in one of several activities. There will be craft workshops as well as opportunities to participate in a 10-minute dance party or a So You Think You Can Interpretive Dance workshop.
Indisputably, food and food presentation can be considered art and at the Village World Kitchen you will be able to appreciate food in all its glory. Organisers are describing the Village World Kitchen as the 'imaginary love-child of Nigella and the Swedish chef.' To be honest, I can't even imagine, but it sounds like fun on the boil. International and local chefs have been invited to come speak about food and their experiences whilst cooking live for your mouth-watering pleasure.
There is a special emphasis this year on young and emerging artists. One particular installation is the Maze of Motions, a collaborative effort between Fitzroy High School students and the Alice Miller School in Macedon. How will it make you feel?
