Continuing on from my previous article on Tet Lunar New Year 2013 this article introduces you to Vietnamese Tet Lunar New Year 2014 (Year of the Horse).

Lunar New Year always brings a special, hard-to-describe feeling, Vietnamese people everywhere. It is time for everyone to go back to Vietnam after a hard-working year to gather with family, visit relatives and have a good relaxing time. If you are a foreigner and want to discover Vietnamese culture, you should visit Vietnam and join this festive experience .

As the capital of Vietnam, Tet Hanoi is always beautiful and poetic with the early spring drizzle. Coming to Hanoi for Tet, you can visit the Sword Lake - where you can see images of seniors sipping steaming cups of fragrant tea and playing chess. You can also do pilgrimage, visiting the temples to hope for peace and good luck for the family for the whole year coming.

This is cherry blossom season with the flowers blossoming everywhere in North of Vietnam. As a lover of nature and scenery you should not miss the exotic scenery in Sapa, North Truc Lam Monastery, Yen Tu Mountain or Halong Bay.

The Lunar new year calendar usually start in late January or beginning of February according to Gregorian calendar. That explains why Tet days vary from year to year. 2014 Tet holiday starts from 27 January 2014 to 9 February 2014 for students and will be little bit shorter for officials and staff, from 28 January 2014 to 5 February 2014. There will be fireworks from 12.00 am to 12.15am on 31 January 2014 in major cities all around Vietnam.

There are 29 fireworks locations in Hanoi:

Low-range fireworks at 24 places in 24 districts in Hanoi, including: Ba Dinh , Hoang Mai , Long Bien , Dong Da , Cau Giay , Thanh Xuan , Gia Lam , Me Linh , Ba Vi , Son Tay , Dan Phuong , Thach Unemployment , Chuong My , Thuong Tin , Quoc Oai , Phu Xuyen , My Duc , Ung Hoa , Dong Anh , Soc Son , Phuc Tho , Thanh Oai , Hoai Duc and Thanh Tri .

5 places with high-range fireworks include Hanoi center and the following locations: Hanoi Post Office , Reunification Park , Lac Long Quan flower garden and Tay Ho District Stadium My Dinh National .

There are 7 fireworks locations In Ho Chi Minh, the biggest City of Vietnam:

One high-range fireworks at the Cua ham song Sai gon – centre gate of Saigon river (District 1) and six places with low range fireworks include : Dam Sen Cultural Park ( District 11 ) , Ben Duoc Monument (Cu Chi), Ethnic Culture History Park (District 9) , Soccer Football yard (Can Gio) , Nga Ba Giong martyrs memorial (Hoc Mon) , Lang Le - Bau Co historical area (Binh Chanh) .

Da Lat province will have two firework locations at Da Lat City and Bao Loc city. Da Nang city also has two locations at Northeast Han River Bridge and Southwest of Dragon Bridge.


Tet has a very special meaning to all Vietnamese. It is the occasion for Vietnamese to express their respect and remembrance for their ancestors as well as welcoming the New Year with their beloved family members. Similar to Christmas and New Year in Western countries, for Tet Lunar New Year in Vietnam every family gathers together to have big meals, decorate Tet trees and eat Tet food to welcome the new year.
