A finalist and winner of multiple awards, Vietnam Restaurant in Adelaide's west is a buzzing place. You need to book and your booking will have a time limit (i.e. you need to arrive, eat and leave in that time) as there will likely be other customers booked to take your table as soon as you are done.
This popularity is well earned and was tested by our table of 11 ordering food from across the menu. We were seated at a round table so decided to order make your own fresh spring rolls (cold rolls). We ordered pork sausage and sugarcane skewered minced king prawns that were sliced at the table and then used as the meat filling in the rolls along with the noodles, lettuce, cabbage, carrot and herbs provided. Other dishes ordered that all got the thumbs up from our table were the two hot pot dishes, one a combination rice hot pot and the other a pork and prawn spicy hot pot. Deep fried squid coated in pepper and chilli also went down well. And the pho - beef with noodles did not disappoint.
This thriving restaurant offers both inside and outside (with heaters) dining and is a busy, noisy happy place with many staff quick on their feet and ready to take your order and bring the food to the table and explain, where needed, how to eat or serve the dishes. Established and run by the Phan family for the last 29 years they pride themselves on serving authentic Vietnamese cuisine. The menu does list a wide variety of chinese dishes too if that is your preference.
To their credit the Vietnam Restaurant has been a finalised and won a number of awards including: Restaurant and Catering Awards for Excellence South Australia Best Asia Catering - Winning in 2009 and Finalist 1998, 2000-2011; Adelaide Food Guide Best Restaurant Catering - Winner 2006, 2008; I Love Food Awards - Winner Favourite Vietnamese South Australia 2010, 2012.
