If you are a senior, you need to read this article
The Victorian Seniors Festival takes place across Victoria throughout October 2018, and this is the 36th time this event has been held.

The festival is all about getting out and about in your local community and even beyond. The festival is also about honouring those of us who are seniors and it is organised by the Victorian Department of Health & Human Services.

These celebrations go for a month and offer more than 2,000 occasions for enjoying yourself and the chance to try something new or different in a friendly atmosphere at little or no cost. You could catch up with friends at a festival event, or perhaps meet new people when you go to an event on your own.

Many councils will be involved and have all sorts of different events happening. For more details, click here.

From Sunday 7th October 2018 to Sunday 14th October, Victorian Senior's cardholders will get free public transport, including all V/Line services. Make sure you carry your Seniors Card all the time!

This will be the perfect opportunity for seniors to come into the city and enjoy the great free entertainment and activities!

There will be so much to see and do during this week, and some of the things include:

a festival of choirs
roving troubadours
active living demonstrations
sponsor and partner stalls
U3A activities
celebratory morning teas
a host of indoor and outdoor recreation activities

The Melbourne Festival Hub will feature:
information sessions
free tea and coffee

There will also be many fabulous concerts at Deakin Edge in Federation Square, including the following:

rockabilly legend, Lonnie Lee
the Salvation Army Red Shield Band
pioneering Australian Aboriginal reggae rock band, No Fixed Address

And if that is not enough, you can also watch dance and more concerts at the Melbourne Town Hall where there will be:

the Senior Victoria Big Band Dance
an organ concert with Myfanway McIndoe
the AGL Swing Band Dance, featuring The Pearly Shells Swing Orchestra

Events will be on all day for the whole week and this is a free festival. No bookings are therefore required. Check with your local council to see what is on in your area.

So, for all those who have a Senior's Card - at last you will be rewarded for "getting older"! This will be a fun week of events made just for you.

Some of the people behind the scenes who have worked hard to get this event going include:

Jeannette Lane - Jeanette is a very active and energetic advocate for older people living on the Mornington Peninsula.

Talgium Edwards - Talgium is a proud Taungurung man, an Elder in his community and a member of the Stolen Generation.

Anna Wang - Anna has turned a short project for her university course into a 10 year long passion. Anna transports seniors from Melbourne's Chinese community to a bit of their homeland for a few hours every week!
