I write for Weekend Notes and I take photographs, usually sunsets and sunrises. Occasionally I include my photos in my articles. I like to promote Geelong, and activities around Geelong.
The Victorian Open Golf Championships (Oates Vic Open) will be held at Thirteenth Beach Golf Links in Barwon Heads on the 4th to 7th February 2016.I am really excited that such a prestigious competition as the PGA Australasian Tour is heading to Geelong.
If you love watching golf, then this is the place to be in February, as many of Australia's best golfers return to the Geelong region. There will be an array of international talent too.
The event is an integral tournament on the PGA Australasia and ALPG Tour schedule. This is a 72-hole competition for both the men and the women. The men's starting field is 144 players, and the women's starting field is 120 players.
There are 2 championship courses, with the men's and women's Championships running at the same time. The women will play on the Creek course while the men will play on the Beach course during rounds one and two. A cut will take place before the weekend's play with rounds three and four being played concurrently for men and women on the Beach course.
The PGA Tour of Australasia schedule offers plenty of golfing action in the start of the new year - 2016.
The Tour will get back underway from the 4th to the 7th February 2016 at the Oates Vic Open.
From the 9th to the 12th February, the Mercedes-Benz Truck and Bus Victorian PGA Championship will be played at Huntingdale Golf Club, with a prize of $100,000. The pro-am format of the Mercedes-Benz Truck and Bus Victorian PGA allows amatuers the chance to play in a PGA Tour of Australasia tournament alongside the Professionals.
As mentioned above, the Tour will then head back to Thirteenth Beach Golf Links, where the men's and women's championship will be played concurrently for the same amount of prize money - a minimum of $250,000.
The Perth International (as part of the PGA Tour of Australasia) will be played from the 25th to 28th February. It should attract a strong field of European and Australasian players. The Perth International will be played for AU $1.75 million dollars, which makes it the richest prize purse currently on the PGA Tour of Australasia.
After Perth, the PGA Tour of Australasia will head across the Tasman Sea to New Zealand, for New Zealand's major tournaments of the year, from the 3rd to the 6th of March. The Holdne N PGA Championship will be played at Remuera Golf Club. Professional golfers will be competing for NZ $125,000.
The prestigious BMW New Zealand Open will be played in Queenstown in the following week. The BMW New Zealand Open is a highlight on the PGA Tour of Australasia schedule, with the players being welcomed back to The Hills and Millbrook Resort each year for the NZ$950,000 tournament.
Finally, the Coca-Cola Queensland PGA Championship will round out the early part of the 2016 schedule. This will be played at the City Golf Club in Toowoomba from the 17th to the 20th March for $125,000.
