The re-enactment is organised jointly by the Adelaide Cemeteries Authority and the Victoriana Society to commemorate the first sexton of the cemetery, John Monck who was appointed in 1837. It will also serve to launch the cemetery's new Beliefs, Attitudes & Customs interpretive trail which will complement the existing highly successful Heritage Highlights Interpretive Trail.

The grandiose procession along West Terrace will feature Sidney Harrison Funerals' horse-drawn hearse followed by the cortege in full Victorian funeral regalia, and will terminate in the cemetery grounds for a traditional committal service.
