The coveted Diwali festival or the Festival of Lights is once again upon us. Federation Square will host this wonderful event on 3 November 2018 from noon to 10pm. Diwali is one of the most popular festivals of Hinduism and embodies the spiritual "victory of light over darkness, good over evil and knowledge over ignorance". While the mythological stories vary as to the origin of the Diwali festival, it has been universally recognised as a fun-filled, awe-inspiring festival for the whole family and community.
This year's amazing program line-up will impress and inspire with live entertainment, Bollywood shows and screenings of Indian films. The beat of Indian and African drums will ignite the love of music in your heart. A major drawcard of the event will be the golden opportunity to meet and greet AFL players and take snazzy snaps.
There will be craft and dance workshops to pick up new dance moves and buy unique souvenirs. Traditional henna painting stalls will allow you to paint your hands with temporary henna tattoos and show off to friends and family. A multicultural bazaar will endow the opportunity to fill your bags with beautiful, traditional clothes and knickknacks. The Diwali wish pavilion will be a funky addition to the festival. A wide array of Indian food stalls will seduce your palate with aromatic and scrumptious Indian cuisine. Activities will be organised for both young and old to ensure that everyone in the family will have a ball.
A stunning fireworks display will conclude the festival.
Federation Square will be adorned in pink in support of Pink Ribbon and will raise awareness and funds for the Breast Cancer Foundation. So remember to wear pink to show solidarity to this charitable cause.
Federation Square is located in the heart of Melbourne CBD opposite Flinders Street railway station at the corner of Flinders and Swanston streets. You can visit the festival by taking trams, buses and trains. If you opt for the car, then there are Wilson and Secure parking available all over Melbourne.
