Last night I went into town to see the giant Christmas tree in Victoria Square. The whole square has had a major redevelopment and it looks absolutely stunning. The re-development has taken 2 years and has cost an estimated $24 million.

The 24.5m (80ft) high Christmas tree is a stunning centrepiece to a brand new and exciting Victoria Square.

This year, the tree is made up of thousands and thousands of energy efficient LED lights which reportedly cost $250,000. The lights continuously cycle through colour changes, patterns and even a lovely Christmas greeting for all who are there. It's a magnificent sight.

The tree is the drawcard to the square, but the fun is in the water play feature. Kids squeal, running in and out of the dozens of fountains that shoot water out in different colours and forms. The adults get in on the fun too - why not? It's there for everyone to enjoy and enjoy they certainly did.

If you can't make it in to the square to see the tree - then log into the Adelaide Parklands live webcam and enjoy the spectacle from the comfort of your living room.

For more information and all enquiries please visit the City of Adelaide website.

Victoria Square has once again become the heart of the city and it's simply wonderful. Last night (a Monday evening), the place was very busy with people of all ages, including a lot of families, visiting and enjoying the free open space.

Well done Adelaide City Council!

Getting to Victoria Square is easy. After 6pm the on-street parking in surrounding streets is free. The trams stop in Victoria Square and it's a short walk to bus stops and the train station.
