Here are dynamic new weekend markets set in the beautiful Redlands within an easy jaunt to glorious Moreton Bay. The VP Star Markets, kick off in the grounds of the Victoria Point High School, corner of Benfer and Cleveland-Redland Bay Roads (93 – 131 Benfer Road for GPS), Victoria Point on Saturday 6 December, 2014. Trading hours will be from 7.00am until 12.00 midday.

Admission to the Markets is FREE and Councillor Lance Hewlett of the Redland City Council, who has greatly assisted in the preparation, will be officially opening the Markets. Parking in the school grounds is by gold coin donation.

The Markets, to be held throughout the leafy, shaded grounds of the School, have been designed by Graeme Balmer of VP Star Hunter and Gatherer Markets in collaboration with the VP High School's P and C Committee. What makes them different to the usual Saturday markets is the student populace is being encouraged to develop its entrepreneurial skills through the set-up of small businesses by the students. The students are being challenged to test their skills in selling and marketing their products and produce in the free market. This is an exciting initiative for local schools and their students.

In addition, there will be stalls and entertainments of all types. Being a general market, there will be the usual good things you can only get through these places, such as, fresh, organic, natural fruit and vegetables; a lot of which will be produce grown locally in the Redlands.

As you wander the big, open spaces of the school grounds you are going to find local arts and crafts stalls, which will change with time but usually include treasures such as, hand-crafted jewellery, pottery, works of art by local artists and leather goods. If you are in the market for books, CDs, DVDs, clothing, nick knacks, second hand goods, plants, antiques and any of those types of things then keep your eyes peeled, they will all be included as the markets grow.

To make sure the kids keep giggling and laughing (and not whinging and moaning) there will be stalls set up to do face painting and, of course, the jumping castle.

To give the Dads something to do while Mum and the kids are fully occupied the Markets will be providing displays at various times by the Army, Police, Car Clubs, Show and Shine, Bike Clubs, and Boat shows.

Now for the most important part of any markets – the food! Part of the experience of the day will be the world of flavours you will get from the food available. Why don't you try some German, Indian, Chinese, Turkish, Greek or Thai? If your tastes are not so exotic you could enjoy some of the wonderful chips, hot dogs or even line up at the sausage sizzle. To finish off try some of the hand-made Ice cream and then wash everything down with a real cup of coffee or a pot of tea. What could be better than a Saturday brunch by the Bay?

Then for that bit of extra spice, of the non-edible kind, there will be raffles and other activities likely to turn your morning out into a day to remember.

The Markets will be providing an opportunity for community based and not-for-profit organisations, such as, The Cage Youth Club, Redlands Centre for Women and other youth and mental health organisations to raise much-needed funds and display how they support and service their local communities.

While there, take a look around at the school. It is in an absolutely lovely setting with some really fantastic facilities designed to further the education of young minds and hearts. Victoria Point High School has developed into a leading Queensland secondary school and can offer young people an education second to none. So if you are looking for somewhere to send your offspring where they can benefit from a complete education this might just be the school for you.

If you would like to get in on the ground floor and be part of the action from the 6 December give Graeme a call on 0488 097 546 or email at: [email protected] to discuss your ideas and what you can offer the Markets.

As stated at the beginning, these are DYNAMIC Markets so they will be changing all the time from week to week and month to month. This means you need to return again and again to keep up with the evolution of this new phenomenon in Victoria Point.
