As a mother of a two year old, seeking out new parks is nearly essential. Especially when said two-year-old requires twice daily park outings. A new park for small one correlates to what a new cosy bar once was to me: sheer bliss. Happily, Victoria Park at the junction of City Road and Broadway has recently emerged on our park radar.
The various components that make up the play area keep small one interested and, therefore, both of us pleased. It has jumping stones, both vertical and horizontal, and an array of small swinging objects to delight.
The balance beams are perfect and the flying saucer spinning disc offers pure fun. I should qualify – small one finds it amusing to spin me around, rather than for me to spin him. The flying fox entertains older kids and the bark on the ground entrances smaller ones.
There is room for everyone to move and the few times we have been there, everyone plays nice. This is a sure sign that a park works well.
Interestingly, there is some fencing but not enough to make one feel penned in. And small one never felt the need to run away, and I was comfortable with the broad grass stretches around us as boundary. All in all, this is one of my favourite park destinations in inner Sydney, not least because several choice coffee destinations are just a cooee away.
