When I recently went to Tallangatta for a break, I stayed with my sister and her partner. We had a few meals out, and I cooked roast pork and vegetables for one meal.

One of the most memorable meals was at the Victoria Hotel. Owned by Christine Winter, the pub offers great meals, a large bar area, a large dining room and bistro, outdoor beer garden / dining area / smokers area, and home grown, country hospitality. The owner was serving drinks and chatting to customers.

There was a large choice of meals on the menu and we didn't have to wait long for our meals to be served. The size of the meals was large so bring a healthy appetite when you dine here.

What can you expect from the Victoria Hotel when you visit? A dining room that seats about 50 people, a clean and tidy hotel, a rear deck (bistro) that seats about 30 or more people, a front beer garden (smoking area), a pool room, and a fully fenced in lockable yard for secure motorbike parking. There is also accomodation at the Victoria Hotel.

The Victoria Hotel is a country pub located about 25 minutes away from Albury / Wodonga. The Victoria Hotel welcomes events - parties and bus trips, weddings, birthday celebrations, and groups - motorcycle groups and riding groups. Phone 02 6071 2672 for any bookings or enquiries.

For all the Doctor Who fans out there, you can time travel from the Victoria Hotel. Doctor Who, a Time Lord - a time travelling humanoid alien, explored the universe in his TARDIS, a sentient time travelling space ship. The space ship appears as a blue British police box, which was a common sight in Britain in 1963, when the Doctor Who series aired. The Victoria Hotel has a blue British police box in it's dining room / bistro area.

Tallangatta and Albury / Wodonga are surrounded by the Great Dividing Range. Tallangatta is close to the Hume Weir and overlooks Lake Hume. The waterway around Tallangatta is part of the Hume Dam. Last time I visited Tallangatta the waterway was full of water. This time the water level was quite low. It still made for a beautiful sunset as I arrived in Tallangatta on Wednesday 13th August.

Getting there:
To get to Tallangatta (from Geelong or Melbourne) travel up the Hume Highway to Wodonga, then follow the directions and signs to Tallangatta. When you get to Tallangatta turn right at the Swimming Pool (Akuna Avenue) and follow Akuna Avenue til you see the sign for the Victoria Hotel.
