The Victor Hugo: Les Misérables – From Page To Stage Exhibition will take place at the State Library of Victoria from 18 July to 9 November.

It will take visitors on an exploration of writer, poet and artist Victor Hugo's larger-than-life existence in the Paris of his day, and shows how his personal experiences shaped his masterpiece, Les Misérables.

Exclusive to the State Library of Victoria, it will bring together rarely seen original manuscripts, photographs, paintings, drawings and publications to reveal Hugo's passions and politics, family and social conscience and will include Les Misérables scripts, scores, costumes, set designs, posters, photographs and film from the Mackintosh archive. Some of the items are on display for the very first time.

This world-first exhibition coincides with the Australian staging of 25th anniversary production of Les Misérables in Melbourne to be held at Her Majesty's Theatre from 22 June.

There will also be a full programme of educational and entertaining events.
