Discover fabulous food & coffee in the Darling Quarter
Located in the heart of Darling Quarter, Vesta Caffe is promoted as offering fresh Italian food and "award winning" roasted coffee. My children and I recently visited for lunch on a weekday during the school holidays.
There are always plenty of options for family fun in Darling Quarter, such as the fabulous water play and adventure park, a show at the Monkey Baa Theatre or one of the special festivals such as Cool Yule or Fiesta in the Darling Harbour precinct.
Similarly, there are numerous dining options in this location, but it's difficult to know which restaurants are family friendly and if the kids will actually eat what is on the menu. However, I am happy to report that Vesta ticks both of these boxes.
Who doesn't love the water play park in Darling Quarter?
Vesta is perfectly situated on Harbour Street, right across from the Commonwealth Bank building, and is just a minute or two from the water play and adventure park. All of the seating is al fresco so make sure you rug up to stay warm in the winter months.
The lunch menu is extensive and includes panini (sandwiches), burgers, salads, pastas or pizza. I chose the vegetarian panini ($16), an assortment of roast vegetables, and feta and mixed leaves on sourdough bread. The roast vegetables (mushrooms, capsicum and pumpkin) and feta on my panini were delicious and I also really enjoyed the cauliflower and chickpea side salad.
The Kids Lunch Menu includes a choice of Penne or Spaghetti, Pizza, Chicken & Chips or Fish & Chips, and all of the kids meals are reasonably priced at $10 each. My children chose the Ham and Cheese Pizza and the Fried Chicken and Chips.
The Fried Chicken and Chips was served up in the cutest little basket and was enjoyed by my daughter. However the highlight for her was the spectacularly creamy pineapple juice, served in a funky mason jar mug, which she proclaimed was the most delicious pineapple juice ever!
The service at Vesta was quick and the staff were friendly. The only complaint I had was when one of the loitering ibis birds jumped on to our table to steal some food. Who knew they could jump so high? Diners beware!
Vesta has a reputation for amazing coffee so I couldn't resist ordering a coffee to takeaway after our lunch, and it did not disappoint. The coffee was really smooth and creamy and I could understand the high demand and the steady queue of office workers lining up for their daily coffee fix. For me it was the perfect accompaniment to sitting in the sun and watching the kids play at the water park.
