After the sell-out season of TAPE (Stephen Belber) with rave reviews, Play Dead Theatre will be back in 2017 to build on their success. Whilst sipping on a gin sling and admiring the dance party I asked Michael a few questions about his passion for independent theatre.
Michael Mack and Adam Hetherington at Play Dead Theatre Fundraiser
Mistress: 'But not many actors land paid work in Australia'.
Michael: 'Yeah of course. It would be nice to have it all, but it's also great to live your passion'.
Mistress: 'You've secured some awesome prizes for tonight's fundraiser'.
Michael: 'We have worked hard to get some great sponsors on board and we are so excited with the support'.
Mistress: 'So where does your drive come from?'
Michael: 'I've read so many great plays and I can't believe that they are not hitting our main stages. But then again I'm happy that I have the opportunity to expose that work'.
Mistress: 'So what is Venus In Fur about?'
Michael: 'Venus In Fur is a psychological drama written by David Ives. The drama unfolds during an audition between an actress and a director'.
Mistress: 'Sounds intense. What made you choose this play?'
Michael: 'I love strong female characters, especially when the female actually takes the upper hand and wins. We rarely see that on stage. We tend to see a lot of tragedy and pain for female characters'.
Me: 'So what's next?'
Michael: 'Finding a venue, that feels right for this play'.
Me: 'What's the chances of me winning the raffle of the free scenic helicopter flight for two?'
Michael: 'Anything's possible if you buy a ticket'.
