Pubs and restaurants sure know how to ramp up the costs for New Year's Eve. I guess they can. Everyone feels like they must go out and finding staff to work must be hard so there are probably a few incentives paid.
With most places charging anywhere from $110 to $400 for packages it is nice to know the places that you can still get in for free. What you spend is then is up to you. After all, it would be nice to have some money left over to spend in 2015.
The Duke is one of Melbourne's oldest pubs. While you can book a VIP booth here for $400 (includes a bottle of Moet) they also have free entry if you just want to stand around and mingle without the frills. Free Entry and Entertainment on the ground floor from 8pm.
