New menu with a twist

On a delightful Monday evening, I was invited to the Velduor Bar and restaurant. As I stepped into the restaurant with my friend, I caught sight of cosy couches, black benches and mounted wall heaters that adorned the outer half of the restaurant. I was greeted by a smiling waitress named Samm.

As I was ushered inside, I took in the simple décor of the interior. One wall of the restaurant was decked with a bar while another wall was adorned with rows of empty wine bottles. At one corner I was pleasantly surprised to discover a huge, old-fashioned fireplace which offers oomph and warmth to patrons on frosty, wintry days. Euphonious music played in the background which in conjunction with the dim lighting lent a mellow vibe creating an atmosphere conducive of conversation.

Samm invited me to sample the new 'Feed Me' menu that has been introduced by the Chef. The 'Feed Me menu' incorporated 6 of the Chef's favourite dishes. Samm informed me that the menu regularly and is aimed at offering diverse choices to the patrons. This menu is designed to be shared by two people. I acquiesced to the suggestion of the 'Feed Me' menu. As I eagerly awaited our food another waiter Elliott appeared with a big jug of cocktail named A pirates life for me, which was yet another recommendation of Samm. The funky name aside, this cocktail was delectable and refreshing evoking the sensation of the tropics. The mint in the drink elevated the taste and wonderfully quenched my thirst.

Our food came to us in quick succession, efficiently delivered by Samm and Elliott.

The corn chips with the guacamole dip made for a good starter. The chips went nicely with the fresh and appetising dip.

The meatballs stuffed with mozzarella were the next dish to appear on our table. The meatballs were quite ordinary failing to win any accolade.

Next we sampled the lemon and pepper calamari which was crispy on the outside and soft and juicy inside the tempura exterior. Dipped in the creamy and rich mayo, the calamari tasted simply superb!

The sticky chipotle chicken was flavoursome. The tender meat fell off the bones and melted away in my mouth. True to its name, this dish had a kick to it and qualified as a spicy dish.

The popcorn prawns were delicious. A thin layer of tempura gave way to plump and succulent prawns that soon disappeared into our mouth with the plate getting emptied promptly.

The tacos were the next dish to entice our tastebuds. The pork meat and pickled cabbage enclosed in the soft tortilla was quite scrummy.

Once we finished the 'Feed Me' menu, Samm offered dessert and highly commended the salted caramel and pecan ice-cream sandwich which was happily accepted. The visually pleasing presentation of the dessert drew my attention. Every spoonful of this tasty fare filled me with euphoria. This decadent treat was definitely the highlight of our meal and was an exquisite way to finish the night. It is suffice to say that we were full and content after such a hearty meal. Priced at $70, the 'Feed Me' menu is certainly a nice way to try a range of dishes.

Veludo Bar has a membership program whereby as a valued VIP member you can receive special deals and rewards. The perks also include $4 wines and boags, complimentary cocktail on your birthday, glass of wine or beer with the 'Feed Me' menu, $100 Veludo voucher when you host a function in the private function area, accrue points that can be used to redeem food and beverages. You can ask for a membership form at the counter.

Located at 175 Acland Street, Veludo Bar can be found right across from the last stop of tram 96. With St Kilda beach and Luna park only a stone's throw away location is a major drawcard for this restaurant. Veludo bar is open seven days a week. Patrons are invited for breakfast, lunch and dinner on Saturday and Sunday while lunch and dinner options are available on Monday to Friday. From Monday to Friday, you can also take advantage of the $15 Street Bar Lunch offer which is available from 12pm to 3pm.

Prime location, nice music, fast service and diverse offerings make Veludo Bar a nice place to hang out with friends and family while sharing a meal and some drinks over lively conversation.

What exactly are popcorn prawns? I've never heard of them but by the picture, they just look like tempura/battered prawns. Is there a difference?
