A heady mix of cars, coffee and the smell of petrol
To some this may seem like the ultimate compromise but in fact it was fun looking at all the expensive modern but vintage sports cars at Dutton's Showroom. We saw cars such as Maserati, Ferrari and Jaguar, just to name a few, a lot of them to my untrained eye looked beautifully maintained. They were all for sale or at least they all had price tags. There had obviously been a lot of love and care put into their restoration.
We were attracted to go in have a look after spying a small 3 wheel car in the lane way/arcade.
And yes, I did roll my eyes thinking that my entire morning was going to be spent looking at cars I couldn't afford, however there was quite a respectable cafe, Cafe Veloce, at the back of the showroom that allowed a coffee drinker such as myself to observe the comings and goings of the showroom. The cafe has some interesting offers such as "house cured ocean trout open sandwich with smashed avocado, watercress & caper-berries on rye" - which sounded very nice!
Although I noticed that there was a faint smell of petrol in the air, it just added to the atmosphere but then my brother didn't seem to notice it at all. So I made myself comfortable, after spending a few minutes looking at the merchandise, while he took much longer perusing the cars and motor bikes. There were quite a lot of people both young and old looking at the cars, and judging from the sold signs there were even people who were able to purchase them.
If you are in South Yarra it might be worth paying a visit particularly if your companions like cars, the coffee isn't too bad either so you can take a moment to rest before hitting the shops for some more affordable shopping.
