Vegie Bar Restaurant

Nestled amongst the hip Brunswick streets is one of my favorite vegetarian restaurants - Vegie Bar.

As soon as you walk in you feel you're part of something. Writers scribbling away passionately on corner tables sipping on their soy lattes, cocooned in their own thoughts. Young bohemian artists discussing their next show whilst eating their wild mushroom risotto and organic salad. The place has a rustic yet artsy feel, full of life, and serving some of the best fresh vegetarian food around.

Being a crowded Friday night, I was whisked away to the bar to wait for a table. The bar itself was elegant - half way between outdoor and indoor, in a dim lit area, it was quite classy.

Luckily the wait wasn't long, and I was happy to be seated in the restaurant area, hidden away from the main casual area. The restaurant side was in a dimly candle lit room, away from the artsy scene. I was impressed that not only did the place have a hip bar, a loud casual spacious rustic area, but also a more romantic restaurant all in one. You only have to choose where you feel like sitting on the day.

The staff were very friendly, with eager suggestions for the 'do try' and 'must try.' After flipping the continental menu a few times over, I chose the Mexican choice, with enchilada, salad and rice.

As I waited, I noticed how alive this place was, not only because of the many people, but due to the variety of people which truly made the place so interesting. From young families, vegan socialites to Toorak yuppies, you could feel a sense of 'coolness' this place had to offer. I loved every bit of it.

My plate finally arrived, and I was quite happy. The presentation was great, with generous servings at an affordable price. As I took a bite of my enchilada, I was impressed. The taste was delicious, and so fresh, something that lacks so heavily in our mainstream Mexican joints. The rice was cooked perfectly with the right Mexican seasoning, the salad was crisp, and there was enough cheese and sour cream to make the perfect indulgent Mexican meal. What else could you ask for?

Overall, this hip joint has to be one of the best vegetarian places around. Whether your after an amazing soy latte or a delicious meal, you know they'll never be a dull moment here. I was also impressed with the variety of Vegetarian food that Vegie Bar had, away from the usual salad's and tofu burgers, they offer real variety to cater for all taste-buds.

I loved this place too, but didn't realise they had a bar too? Thanks for letting me know! Loved the review, have to go back again now - almost forgot about it :)
