Some history for the uninitiated, vaudeville is a theatrical style of variety show that was most popular in the "olden days" (1880s- 1930s). It evolved from freak shows, burlesque, dime museums and concert saloon and combines a series of different acts that constitute the performance. This includes (but is in no way limited to) musicians, dancers, comedians, magicians, jugglers, acrobats, contortionists and the like.
That is the beauty of vaudeville, you never quite know what you are going to get.
Even the late and great Leslie Nielsen (Naked Gun) had a thing for vaudeville and was quoted saying "the violence or the vaudeville style of comedy is a technique all by itself. You get up there, and you are a comedian, and you're doing one thing. That is, you're going to make the audience laugh."
The Vaudeville Club will be performing at The Singing Gallery which can be found amongst the gum trees, vineyards and cafes of Main Road, Mclaren Vale. It is a beautiful old church that has been converted into a unique performance space and will make an atmospheric venue for an evening of vaudeville.
The Singing Gallery aims to foster culture and musicality in the community and has become a hub for various local, interstate and international performances.
The Vaudeville Club is just one of its regular events. It is also home to live theatre, markets and healing workshops. Previously it has hosted popular acts such as The Bearded Gypsy Band, Laura Hill and The Beggars.
Dust off your beads and bow ties because on Friday, November 16th at 7pm The Singing Gallery will step back in time with The Vaudeville Club. You can dress up and join the fun with cocktails by candlelight. Tickets can be purchased online for $25 (plus $2 booking fee) or $30 at the door.
The Vaudeville Club is rated R for racy, risqué and a raucously good time.
